Box Docce 2B, a leading manufacturer of shower enclosures, chose Panotec’s packaging systems to simplify the handling of fragile and bulky products, automating the creation of custom cardboard boxes and optimizing labor and space efficiency throughout the packaging process.
In the sanitary and radiator sector, packaging challenges are numerous: product fragility, the need for practical and cost-effective solutions, and the difficulty of handling heavy or large items. Companies in this industry require cardboard packaging that is not only strong but also easy for a single operator to manage. Panotec meets these needs with innovative technologies that eliminate the use of materials such as polystyrene and plastic, replacing them with customized cardboard corner protections essential for preventing damage.
Panotec machines enable the production of tailor-made packaging, avoiding manual adaptation and improving both product appearance and process efficiency. This article explores a semi-automatic system developed for Box Docce 2B and shows how these solutions have revolutionized the way fragile products are protected and packed.
The Box Docce 2B Case Study: Semi-Automatic Packaging System
When 2B turned to Panotec, the company had the following objectives:
- Feed the line with random products that would arrive at the palletizing area sorted into specific pallet bays.
- Optimize labor resources in the packaging area.
- Maintain a productivity rate of 2.5 pieces per minute.
- Handle fragile, bulky, and heavy products with a single operator.
Thanks to a semi-automatic system for producing custom boxes:
- Nine palletizing bays were created, divided into different workstations according to package type and destination (vertical warehouse or just-in-time shipping).
- Only one manual operation was required: inserting the product into the open box. The system therefore requires only one operator.
- A high level of automation was implemented to maintain a productivity rate of 2.5 pieces per minute.
- The coupling module includes a pen conveyor for the automatic placement of the product into the open box.
How It Works
Panotec designed an automated and integrated system for complete packaging process management. A 3D measuring unit precisely detects product dimensions, while the box-making machine produces custom-sized boxes, optimizing cardboard usage. The coupling station facilitates product insertion into the box using suction cups and motorized rollers that assist the operator. The gluing and closing system uses hot-melt adhesive to ensure secure, precise sealing of the boxes, improving production efficiency and handling of different package sizes.
